Latest News 29/6/26
Early in June the contractor was given instructions to start phase 2 of the improvements. This is the new servery which will cost £60 000. It should be completed at the same time as phase 1 (the new meeting rooms and toilet) on 13 November 2026.
The architect is pleased with progress on phase 1. Both the new floors and the staircase are now in place, the first wiring has been done and work is starting on the ceiling of the ground floor rooms. There is less to see through the viewing panel now as the screens from the old vestry have been fixed in their new positions for the ground floor rooms. New screens for the upstairs room are being made and should arrive in the next few weeks.

Building Improvements
The Rothley Parish Church building is one of the village’s chief assets, not just for the church congregation, but also for the wider community. Our vision is to make the building a welcoming and community focussed space for all ages and abilities.
We want to make our church building fit for purpose, as a place of worship, of benefit to the community and where we share its heritage. Improvements are needed to meets the needs of our church family and our outreach. The reasons are explained fully in the 2024 fundraising brochure accessed through the menu on the right and the video summarises the changes we need to make.

After ten years of planning work finally started on the first phase on 9th March.
This phase is the largest and covers alterations to the choir vestry to create toilets and a new multipurpose room on the ground floor and an upper meeting room with a stair lift for access. The water and drainage for both toilets and servery are part of this phase.
The existing vestry has been taken down:

The steel framework of the new structure is in place and work has started on the floor of the upper room.

The first phase will cost £402,000
The church currently holds £321,000 in donations, remaining pledges, grants and funds allocated by the PCC. The church can currently cover the shortfall, but only by diverting funds set aside for other purposes, such as evangelism, organ & music, and training. We would like to minimise the amount we need to draw from those funds and also try to raise further funds and grants to enable us to complete the project
We need to raise roughly another £60,000 for the servery (phase 2) and a further £45,000 to improve accessibility at the north porch entrance including a new glass door (phase 3). The appeal fund launched in January 2024 still welcomes donations from church members. Some of you reading this may be new members and may not yet have had the opportunity to contribute to the project, so please consider if now is the time to do this.
Donations can be made as one-off gifts or by regular standing order and taxpayers can increase their gift by using Gift Aid. For more information on making donations please contact Charles Poole (Gift Aid and Stewardship Co-Ordinator) welcome@rothleychurch.org.uk Please mark emails for Charles’ attention.
The church contactless machine can also be used.
