Men Behaving Acceptably MBA
The aim of the MBA is to offer the opportunity to all men to meet in fellowship: sharing and learning from life’s experiences and seeking to further develop their understanding of The Gospel and its relevance in today’s world.
The name Men Behaving Acceptably was conceived by the founders of the group, Revd Nick Baines (Bishop of Bradford), John Eggleston, Gary Wainwright, Rafe Cherry and Nigel Hillier. They intended it to have several meanings (even academic!), but the informality of the meetings often bring a smile to the face of those who remember the TV sitcom with a slightly different title
On regular monthly Monday meetings throughout the year speakers from outside and inside the Church are invited to speak about their own personal life and faith followed by a question time. The diversity of subjects broached is huge, as can be seen from the list within the “Past Guests” tab at the bottom of the screen. Some events are based on a forum style to encourage debate around key issues affecting life for men in the 21st century. Perhaps uniquely the group has been meeting regularly for 15 years, and yet is still able to maintain its renowned diversity and relevance.
The MBA currently meets at the Rothley Court Hotel in the village where a bar is available and light supper provided as part of the cost of the evening, which is currently £4.00.
