Music plays a vital part in worship at Rothley Parish Church and the choir plays a part in most services. We aim to use the best of all the traditions and resources available to us.
The Junior Choir practice takes place every Friday from 7.30 to 8.15pm in Church followed by a full choir practice between 8.00 and 9.00pm. New members are always welcome (if they can sing!).
The recently restored organ is frequently used, however on occasions the grand piano is preferred. We aim for a variety of music by also using a string quartet and a band at times.
Our organist and Director of Music is Simon Murphy, should you have any questions about the music in church, please contact him direct at mrsimonmurphy@aol.com
The choir website is www.rothleychoir.co.uk and includes details of music for upcoming services.
The organ, a 2 manual with 22 stops, was built by Norman & Beard in 1921 and dedicated to the memory of the Rothley men who died in the Great War. The cost £1,700.00. Originally the organ was hand blown, but converted to a water driven motor until the advent of electricity in the village. In 1984 an additional ‘fifteenth’ was added to allow two octaves above the Great.
